Our wholistic transformation model is built around three pillars
Housing
Empowerment
Mentorship
Housing
Family First and Kinship Support
A familial home is always the preferred option for youth. For this reason, Oasis implements a homelessness preventive strategy to help families and similar long-term support options work. We provide counselling and mediation support to help families remain together.
The Oasis House
The Oakville Oasis House is a 5-bed transitional housing hub with staff support for male youth ages 18-24. Adhering to the ‘Foyer Housing Model,’ we provide safe and affordable housing for homeless youth in exchange for their commitment to self-development and growth.
Make a Room Project
This initiative calls upon community members to transform available spaces in their home to support vulnerable youth who are at risk of homelessness. Oasis will provide willing participants with professional support to make this initiative a successful collaboration.
Empowerment
We seek to equip youth with the tools they need to take control of their own lives and successfully transition to adult independence.
Our staff-led Life-Skills Training is available for both residents of the Oasis House and non-resident youth. We target areas for development including:
-
Personal wellness
-
Household management
-
Employment support,
-
Community resource navigation,
-
Faith development.
We create space for experiential learning and self-reflection which affords youth the opportunity to first act upon their learning and reflect on their experiences in the context of regular, family-like conversations.
Mentorship
The Oasis Mentorship Program connects young people with caring adults from their local communities. These mentors help build the skills, networks, and confidence needed for youth to grow into capable adults. Youth who participate in this program have opportunities to receive one-on-one coaching, attend group activities with mentors and fellow mentees, and make long-lasting friendships.
